The Orchid Ball is an annual YCPA event celebrating the Asian Heritage Month, the Asian cultures, and the contributions of our community to Quebec and Canadian society. It brings together guests each year to celebrate our shared heritage in a festive and warm atmosphere.
This year, the ball will have the theme "A Sip of Heritage", an evening that will highlight the profound cultural symbolism of tea and its historical and economic impact.
On behalf of YCPA, we invite you to join us at the seventeeth edition of the Orchid Ball, A Sip of Heritage, to be held on May 3, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at the Théâtre Cartier located at 2330 Steet Catherine St E, Montreal, Quebec H2K 2J4.
Tea, a simple leaf in a cup, has played a transformative role in shaping the cultures and economies of Asia for centuries. Through ceremonial practices and shared traditions, tea has not only served as a beverage but also as a symbol of connection, peace, and continuity. Historically, it has driven trade routes, supported economies, and even influenced political landscapes. The Silk Road, for instance, saw tea being exchanged as a precious commodity that crossed borders and bound distant peoples together. In the heart of Asia, tea has always been more than just a drink—it is a medium of connection and a way to foster relationships. Whether shared between friends, offered to guests in a spirit of hospitality, or used in the rituals of diplomacy, tea has symbolized the harmonious bonds that tie individuals, families, and entire nations together. For centuries, it has been the essence of hospitality and an expression of cultural identity.
This year, our ball will highlight the symbolic richness of tea through an elegant fusion of Asian art exhibitions, captivating performances, and immersive experiences that will celebrate the traditions and stories shaped around this iconic beverage.
